Girl problems: the ten year-old version

Get a life cartoon

Hey Dad, I think Danielle likes me!

What makes you think so?

Elana asked her.

Wow. So now what?

Tomorrow Elana is going to tell her I like her.

And what are you going to do?

I’m going to stand behind a tree and she’s going to bring Danielle near the tree. If she likes me then Elana is gonna give me a signal behind her back.

Then what?

Then I’ll run out from behind the tree and hide.

Interesting plan. Have you thought this through? Let’s say she does like you back and you run out from behind the tree and hide. Do you think she might, I don’t know, maybe think you don’t like her?

Yeah, it’s tough, I know.  Okay, so let’s say she says she likes you, then what?

Uh, whadya mean?

Well, you establish that you both like each other and then what do you do?  Do you start doing stuff together at recess? Do you hold hands?

Daaaad! No!

Would you call her your girlfriend?

No.    I don’t know.    I mean, well, what does that mean, really, to call someone your girlfriend?

Well, it means different things at differing ages I guess. Like you might hang out together at recess and do stuff together after school.

Like what?

I don’t know, like go bowling or something.

How do you know this stuff–you never had a girlfriend until you were like 40 or something.

I’ve seen it on TV.

Let’s talk about something else.

Yeah, that’d be good.
